study tips

Bismillaah.

It seems like the time has come and everyone is graduating and if not, schools are nearly closing and winter vacation seems to be right around the corner for most of us. This is the time to freak out and stress and become frustrated, but please don’t. I was going to be completely selfish and dedicate this post to myself only, but I thought it might serve a purpose for another soul out there.

  1. If you think lack of sleep is going to make you perform better in classes/exams. You’re not only wrong, you’re wrong three times. Your body is like a baked good. If you don’t let it rest properly, it’s not good. Horrible example, but get enough rest. I don’t mean 2-3 hours, I mean 7-8 hours.
  2. Sleep early. You may think that staying up will help you finish your assignments, but it’s better for you to sleep early, wake up early, and study then. Not only will you be refreshed, but you’ll be well rested too.
  3. Stay away from energy drinks, soda, unhealthy foods to keep you up. Not only is this bad for your health, but it’ll cause your body to be restless when you’re trying to get some sleep.
  4. Don’t overcaffeinate.
  5. Don’t try to study with too many friends because many times, that’ll just be a distraction.
  6. Before you study, make the intention of studying well and doing it for the sake of Allaah. Pray before studying.
  7. Stay calm, be calm. Don’t overstress yourself. Write a list of things you want to accomplish and tape it on your wall. As soon as you’re done with one thing, cross it off.
  8. Breaks? How long, when, and where? Don’t be the tumblr addict of studying for 5 minutes and taking a break on tumblr for 1 hour. Tumblr can wait, but your future really can’t. The messages in your inbox, the postings, the reblogs, the all of it can wait. Trust me. You’ll feel really dumb getting anything lower than what you expected on an exam, only because you couldn’t stay away from tumblr, fb, twitter, youtube, etc.
  9. Discipline yourself. 15 minute break means 15 minute break. Treat yourself to extending your break by how much you study and how well you studied.
  10. Dress well. It’s a personal belief of mine that when you dress well, you study well, etc. I’m not stating to look like you’re going to a ball but dress up to study. Especially if you’re at home, take the time to look nice, smell nice. It’ll help you feel nice.
  11. Take a break and exercise. That’ll rejuvenate your mind. Or not.

I pray that all your exams, assignments, quizzes, finals go well and you pass them all with flying colours. May Allaah ease all your classes, finals and may you get the well needed rest. May you retain the information you studied and may it be used in your favour in the exams. Aamiin.

Have a blessed day! [feel free to add your own tips]
