Everyone wants to be remembered for something. Everyone wants their name etched in the hearts of the great. Everyone wants their actions witnessed by the superior. Everyone wants to be remembered for something.
But when the kiss of death is placed upon your soul, all you would wish was to have remembered Allah more. All you would wish was to return and avenge the moments you wasted when you could have done good. All you would want was for the people to forget you so that you could remember Allah more. All you would want was to remember your meeting with Allah.
And it will be said: “This Day We will forget you as you forgot the Meeting of this Day of yours. And your abode is the Fire, and there is none to help you.” (Qur’an 45:34)
And had the people remembered you, would it benefit you? Would it benefit you to be in the minds of feeble creations whose sole purpose in life is to be remembered? Would it benefit you to know that you were only a faint memory in their minds; for a a few moments, a few seconds?
But when the kiss of death is placed upon their souls, know that they will not remember you. They will only wish they remembered Allah more. They will regret every moment spent thinking about the creation. They will regret forgetting Allah. They will regret forgetting about their meet with Allaah.
Then taste you (the torment of the Fire) because of your forgetting the Meeting of this Day of yours. Surely We too will forget you: so taste you the abiding torment for what you used to do. (Qur’an 32:14)
You want to be remembered for something? First remember that the Arabic word for human is ’insaan’. It means ‘forgetful’ for verily we are forgetful creations. I will forget you. You will forget me. They will forget you. We will forget. But Allaah remembers those that remember Him.
So remember Me; I will remember you. And be grateful to Me and do not deny Me. (Qur’an 2:152)
Don’t try to be remembered for anything by the creations. Stop trying to make a name for yourself in this world; for Allah; your Creator has your name in your book of deeds. Will it be filled with the remembrance of Allah?
