“Life isn’t fair”, we hear that a lot and we also see it in our everyday lives. We give to others, yet they don’t give back. We help them out when they need us, yet we’re left alone when we need them. We tell the truth, yet they lie to us. All the time we see bad things happen to good people and we say” life is not fair”. Well is life supposed to be fair or did we just assume that it should be? Allah says in Surat Al-Mulk verse 1 and 2:
“Blessed is He in whose hand is dominion, and He is over all things competent, [He] who created death and life to test you [as to] which of you is best in deed, and He is the Exalted in Might, the Forgiving “
So throughout our lives, we’re supposed to be tested & challenged. Life is not supposed to be the place where we’re rewarded for our good deeds.
One of my favorite quotes goes like this,
“People are often unreasonable and self-centered. Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of ulterior motives. Be kind anyway.
If you are honest, people may cheat you. Be honest anyway.
If you find happiness, people may be jealous. Be happy anyway.
The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have and it may never be enough. Give your best anyway.
For you see, in the end, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway.”
So when we do good, we do it solely for Allah’s sake so we shouldn’t expect people to appreciate it or give back in return. We are only doing it to please Allah and Allah only.
Allah says in Surat Al-Baqarah
And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient, Who, when disaster strikes them, say, “Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return, Those are the ones upon whom are blessings from their Lord and mercy. And it is those who are the [rightly] guided.”
So Keep in mind, there’s no such thing as a perfect person or a perfect situation because perfection is a quality that is foreign to this life. So when you’re tested, be patient and thank Allah, for your true reward is with him in Paradise not here in life. All the good that you did even when not appreciated , all the people you forgave even when they hurt you badly, all the times you were patient even though you were going through a lot , it will all be so worth it when you’re rewarded with Paradise. Paradise, where everything is perfect. In Paradise, there’s no such thing as grief, sadness, hurt or loneliness. There’s only happiness, satisfaction, luxury and love. And Remember it’s never between you and people, it’s always between you and Allah.
